Mercedes-Benz World the site for Brooklands Vimy final landing

A grass area at Mercedes-Benz World was the final landing place for a replica wartime bomber plane which is set to retire in the Brooklands Museum.

The Brooklands Vimy was donated to the museum three years ago after being created to re-enact flights that were a feature of World War I.

With flying conditions said to be good on November 15th, the replica of the Vickers Vimy, which was designed during the war, was taken to the air for the last time and brought down at Mercedes-Benz World, which neighbours the museum.

A Brooklands Museum statement read: "The decision by Brooklands Museum to retire the Vimy from active flying was not taken lightly.

"It is the belief of both the original owners and the museum that the aircraft has nothing left to prove, having successfully replicated the three great pioneering flights for which the Vimy is rightly famed."

Fans wanting to catch their own glimpse of the replica can do so at an open day at the museum on November 21st, with events including lectures and a celebratory dinner.

Among those lucky enough to see the landing may have been those enjoying one of the many Driving Experiences available at Mercedes-Benz World.

These range from an AMG Experience to the Kids Driving Experience.
