AMG breaks new ground with new V8 Biturbo engine
March 10th, 2010Mercedes-Benz has surpassed a new milestone in regards to its AMG subsidiary thanks to the development of a new 5.5-litre V8 Biturbo engine.
The eight-cylinder unit fits in with the manufacturer’s drive towards improving fuel consumption and reductions in the generation of carbon dioxide.
Efficiency is also enhanced through technological highlights including direct petrol injection, while a start/stop function features as standard.
The Mercedes-Benz S63 AMG will be the first model to enjoy the benefits of the new engine and will instantly see a 25 per cent improvement in fuel consumption over the range’s existing vehicle.
Friedrich Eichler, Head of Engine and Powertrain Development at Mercedes-AMG, said: "The new AMG V8 Biturbo engine is yet another milestone in our impressive V8 history.
"For the first time we have combined spray-guided direct petrol injection with turbocharging. With this high-tech package we are ‘best in class’ with respect to fuel consumption, output and torque."
Other vehicles that motorists could opt for in the AMG range include the E63 AMG Saloon and the award-winning Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG.
