New record for Mercedes-Benz

The Mercedes-Benz brand has enjoyed a glittering start to the year, with 365,000 vehicles sold between January and April.

A two per cent increase from 357,300 last year contributed to an overall total of 384,600 deliveries for the Mercedes Car Group. Mercedes-Benz shipped 90,600 vehicles in April alone, thanks in no small part to the popularity of the E-Class.

In the last four-month period, 79,100 drivers chose the E-Class, representing a 14 per cent increase on the same period last year. A further 28,200 vehicles were sold in the C-Class segment, where the C-Class sedan enjoyed a remarkably successful launch.

Drivers also remain enamoured with the C-Class Sports Coupe, which has been responsible for 300,000 sales since its launch in March 2001.

The car, designed for “performance and dynamism”, has been praised for the Direct Control Package, which offers better handling and cornering as well as smoother and more precise gear changes.

Mercedes-Benz was this year recognised at the What Car? Car of the Year Awards with honours in both the Luxury Car and Safety categories.
