Mercedes-Benz launches powerful creation

An exclusive variant on the SLK 55 AMG Roadster has been developed by Mercedes-Benz under the moniker Black Series.

The new model, which takes inspiration from motorsport to offer the best performance, can now reach, where laws allow, 173 miles per hour (mph), up from the previous limit of 155 mph as achieved by the original V8 Roadster.

A fixed carbon fibre hard top is fitted to the model to replace the standard SLK’s vario roof, meaning that the car’s centre of gravity is lower and the model itself is lighter.

Racing bucket seats, a lightweight interior and an ergonomic F1 Safety Car-inspired steering wheel are among the luxuriously sporty features offered by the Black Series, complemented by a modified chassis to deal with the extra power provided by the model.

Lighter components mean that the car has shed 45 kilogrammes and can now achieve 400 horsepower compared with the previous limit of 360.

The model is available from €92,500 and can be requested from Mercedes-Benz retailers now.
