The AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT 7-speed sports transmission is a brand-new concept exclusive to the new Mercedes-Benz SL 63 AMG.

Combining the sporty, direct and agile feedback expected of a manual transmission with the convenience of an automatic transmission, the versatility is unique and comes as standard in the new model.

Boasting seven speeds, four drive modes, a double declutching system and Race Start function, the AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT 7-speed sports transmission brings drivers maximum revs of 7,200rpm.

A wet start-up clutch is at the centre of the new technology and running in an oil bath, the transition responds with no slip.

Meanwhile four drive modes give maximum pleasure and versatility whilst not compromising on performance.

Comfort (C), sport (S), sport plus (S+) and manual (M) let the drivers choose with C mode allowing smooth transition in power transfer and the S mode giving drivers more "bite".

Switching to S+ cuts another 20 per cent off shift times while M is the sportiest mode allowing the V8 engine even more power and making gear shifts even faster.

The Race Start function allows drivers to use the maximum acceleration with optimum traction.

With their left foot on the brake pedal and pushing the up shift paddle once they then depress the accelerator and take off the brakes allowing the SL 63 AMG to speed away.
