Frankfurt Motorshow, Mercedes-Benz – Road to the Future

One of the models in a range of Mercedes-Benz diesel vehicles recently showcased at the 2007 Frankfurt Motor Show further highlights the firm’s green credentials, emitting just 119 grammes of CO2 per kilometre.

The A 160 CDI model offers fuel-efficient consumption with lower levels of CO2 emissions, recently being awarded for the achievement with a Car Environment Certificate from ecological institute Oko Trend.

Commentators carrying out the in-depth research heaped praise upon the newly-unveiled model, stating: "The Mercedes A 160 CDI may be seen as one of the most eco-friendly vehicles with a conventional drive system."

The engineering experts added that right from the early ideas behind the concept, environmental plans had already been outlined, taking into account the full lifecycle of the model.

"Numerous specific measures have reduced emissions during the production and operation of the new A-Class by approximately 17 percent compared to the preceding model," they went on to state, concluding that Mercedes-Benz had set new ecological standards for conventionally-powered cars with the creation of its new A-Class vehicles.

Environmental certificates given by the institute are only awarded to vehicles which achieve a minimum of 90 per cent of the maximum score in a variety of assessment criteria, with only 15 having been bestowed worldwide.
