Role model Hamilton to be honoured in home town

On the back of a ground-breaking first season in Formula One, Lewis Hamilton will have a street named after him to mark his phenomenal achievements.

The 22-year old from Hertfordshire missed out on the championship by one point in his first ever season in Formula One racing winning four Grand Prix’s on the way.

The Briton scored 109 points and Stevenage Borough Council has decided to name a street in a new town centre development after the Vodafone McLaren Mercedes driver.

"Everyone in the town is enormously proud of the fact that Lewis comes from Stevenage," said Sharon Taylor, council leader.

"The success of Lewis has given everyone in Stevenage a real boost. In particular, our young people see him as a role model and his achievements have definitely raised their aspiration levels."

Naming of the actual street is yet to take place but the accolade is another to add the list at the end of a phenomenal season for one of the brightest stars in Formula One.
