Hamilton concentrating on 2008 as appeal is rejected

Lewis Hamilton is looking forward to trying to win the World Drivers’ Championship in 2008 after Vodafone McLaren Mercedes’ appeal against the FIA Stewards’ decision regarding fuel temperature irregularities at the 2007 Brazilian Grand Prix was rejected.

Making its decision late on Friday, the FIA International Court of Appeal ruled the case as inadmissible, but Vodafone McLaren Mercedes Formula One chief executive officer, Martin Whitmarsh, stressed that the appeal wanted to clarify the rules.

"We hope that this fuel temperature issue does not remain unresolved in Formula One next year but we look forward to working with the FIA and the teams on clarifying matters to avoid a similar situation occurring again."

The result means that Hamilton will not add to his 109 points and will have to wait until next season to claim his first title in Formula One and the 22-year old ace reiterated his congratulations to Kimi Raikkonen, saying he deserved to win the championship.

"Neither I nor anyone at Vodafone McLaren Mercedes had any desire to take it off him in court. That was not the purpose of the team’s appeal. I am looking forward to the 2008 season and racing Kimi, and all my other rivals, on track and hopefully be able to go one better than the second place I achieved in this year’s World Drivers’ Championship," he said.
