New award to feature at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week
Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Berlin Spring/Summer 2009 will feature the ELLE Fashion Star award to honour the personalities in the international fashion scene.
Known as the ‘Mercedes’, the award will be given in three categories: Platinum, Best Collection and Newcomer.
The award will be discussed this month and Dr Olaf Gottgens, vice president of brand communications at Mercedes-Benz Cars, said he was delighted to add another highlight to the occasion.
"Our aim with the ‘Mercedes’ award is to honour extraordinary contributions to international fashion design while emphasising the perfect match of Mercedes-Benz and fashion," he explained.
The show will see top international models present fashions designed by ELLE as well as other famous fashion names, including Chanel, Armani, Ralph Lauren, Calvin Klein and Jil Sander.
Designed in Germany, the award is made from silver-plated aluminium and depicts a female figure wearing an evening dress.
The Mercedes-Benz stars adorn the dress of the model that was made by Matthias Runar and Heike Fladung.
Professor Peter Pfeiffer, senior vice president of design said the figure represents similar principles to Mercedes-Benz Cars and high-end fashion and draws from the same sources.
Mercedes-Benz holds fashion events in Berlin, New York, Los Angeles and Miami.
