Kovalainen ready for German GP test
Heikki Kovalainen is ready to step-up alongside his Vodafone McLaren Mercedes team-mate Lewis Hamilton and believes the German Grand prix is the perfect occasion.
The Finnish driver has suffered a series of bad luck stories including punctures and tyre graining but believes he is ready to show the world of Formula One what he can do.
Kovalainen took pole at Silverstone only to suffer tyre damage that slowed his speed dramatically, but he demonstrated his pace in a situation that felt "better than ever".
"The race showed I can still do more to improve. I know I have the speed, I just need to work harder to apply it across the whole race weekend," he said.
He has been testing on the Hockenheim circuit in preparation for the Grand Prix and believes the team’s chances are strong.
"Hockenheim is more of a technical, medium-speed circuit so I wouldn’t expect us to have any particular advantage - but the car does feel very good here," Kovalainen explained.
