Horn testing Pangaea ahead of epic journey

Mike Horn, the adventurer taking part in the Pangaea Expedition, which is sponsored by Mercedes-Benz, has been practising on his ship in preparation for the adventure.

Due to begin the voyage in October, Horn has been sailing in the Atlantic in preparation for the sustainability expedition.

Using hydrogen fuel cells for most of the propulsion power when sailing, the boat generates energy through solar panels placed on the surface of the cockpit.

Equipped with efficient Mercedes-Benz engines, the boat will produce very few emissions when it sets sail from Punta Arenas in Chile.

The project is aiming to encourage sustainability but it will also bring students on board and give them the chance to undertake biodiversity and water research.

It is hoping to raise awareness of climate change and encourage a new generation of people to care about the planet.

Over 22,000 hours of design went into the boat, allowing it to be diverse enough to navigate through tropical waters and rivers as easily as polar regions.
