Daimler on track to match 2009 second-half targets
October 1st, 2009Dr Dieter Zetsche has confirmed that Daimler is still on course to match its targets for the second half of the year after witnessing improved results during September.
The Chairman of the Board of Management of Daimler AG and Head of Mercedes-Benz Cars made the comment after Mercedes-Benz sales in September mirrored those in the same month last year.
Dr Zetsche reportedly said: “We’re more confident than before that we can keep our promise of achieving a positive operating result at Mercedes-Benz in the second half.”
It is believed that the latest versions of the Mercedes-Benz E-Class and S-Class models are pivotal to helping the company return to profitability after a tricky opening eight months to the year.
Between January and August, sales at Mercedes-Benz Cars, which also takes into account smart, AMG and Maybach results, were down 17.5 per cent based on year-on-year figures, with 632,700 vehicles shifted.
However, during this same period, sales in China continued to rapidly rise, with a 41.4 per cent increase noted on year-on-year figures despite the tough climate.
