Hammond: New smart fortwo should have green motorists rejoicing
February 16th, 2010Richard Hammond has encouraged motorists with a desire to be as environmentally-friendly as possible on the road to "rejoice" as the smart fortwo has enhanced its position in the market.
The Top Gear presenter has stated in his blog for the Daily Mirror that smart has "tweaked the fortwo cdi to be even more fuel efficient and low on emissions".
Carbon dioxide generation has been reduced to 86g/km as a result of rolling resistance being improved through the ride height of the vehicle being lowered by seven millimetres.
Meanwhile, by driving on the combined fuel cycle, motorists can expect to travel 85.6 miles on a gallon of fuel.
Marc Langenbrinck, Managing Director of the smart brand, added: "We continue to work hard to make our smart models even more environmentally friendly.
"The smart fortwo cdi – the past and the present CO2 champion – is proof of this. With its fleet, smart has an excellent position with regard to corporate average CO2 emissions."
Mr Hammond revealed last year that he had previously enjoyed a test drive in a smart fortwo and drove it "all over the country" without needing to stop at a petrol station.
