The New B-Class: Outstanding environmental credentials
February 1st, 2012Awarded the prestigious ISO Environmental Certificate for ecological compatibility, the new Mercedes-Benz B-Class gets the green light in more ways than one.
Packed with intelligent energy-saving features, the new B-Class in the guise of the
B 180 produces 16 percent less CO2 emissions than its predecessor. Fuel consumption is also reduced up to 19 percent, thanks to a combination of BlueEFFICIENCY technologies including optimisation of the powertrain, energy management, aerodynamics, tyres with less rolling resistance and weight reduction measures.
But to achieve such outstanding environmental credentials, every detail of ecological relevance must be documented. Mercedes-Benz analyses each model throughout its entire life cycle – from production, right through to recycling at the end of its service.
Incorporating 75 components produced with the partial use of high-quality recycled plastics, plus 21 components containing natural materials, the B 180 already meets the recycling level of 95 percent by weight, mandatory as of 1 January 2015.
In addition to reprocessing of vehicle components such as starter battery housings, bumper panels from the Mercedes-Benz Recycling System (MeRSy) and production waste from cockpit units – the B 180 represents innovation at the forefront of its market segment.
