LFW 2012- Christopher Bailey

The creative director of Burberry gave a rare interview at the recent Vogue festival. Yorkshireman Christopher Bailey is often seen as having ascended the brand to its current level of global success and esteem.

He revealed his emotions on being offered the big job back in 2001 – “It was mind-blowing. I just remember thinking it was this incredibly beautiful diamond that had been kind of trodden into the dust a little bit, and I just knew there was so much potential there.” On how he chooses his models and cover girls; “I have to get to know them properly before we can work on something. It’s the way that I’ve always worked.”

And finally, on his slightly unusual (for a fashion designer, at least) hobby – dry stone walling! “It’s a complete joke in my family because I’ve always loved dry-stone walling, and I’ve waxed lyrical about it for years, and my father thinks it’s such a joke because I’m so puny. I keep saying I’m going to learn how to dry-stone wall, and all I’ve ever done is… watch people dry stone wall.”

A small insight into a great creative mind!
