Brawn ‘always had the confidence’ in Schumacher
June 28, 2011
Mercedes GPR PETRONAS Team Principal Ross Brawn says that he “always had the confidence” in Michael Schumacher to come good, adding that the seven-time world champion’s race-craft has been “quite entertaining this season”.
Schumacher sits in ninth place in the drivers’ world championship level with teammate Nico Rosberg following the Canadian Grand Prix a fortnight ago.
Following his fourth place finish in Montreal, the Mercedes GPR PETRONAS team is hoping for a strong follow-up performance in Valencia this weekend.
Brawn told BBC Sport that though he would not call the recent form “a breakthrough” it has been more positive.
“He’s had the odd ‘mare of a race, which every racing driver does, but of course when he has one it tends to get focused on,” he told the news provider.
“But there have been lots of races where his times in the races have been pretty comparable with Nico but they’ve not reflected in final results.”
Schumacher said after the race that he is left “with one eye laughing and one eye crying” having been in second place towards the end in Montreal.
