Brawn hopes to build on Montreal showing
June 24, 2011
Mercedes GPR PETRONAS Team Principal Ross Brawn has revealed his excitement ahead of the upcoming grand prix in Valencia after the team’s impressive showing last time out in Montreal.
Brawn observed that the lap around the marina in Valencia has many similarities to the track in Montreal, with its long straights and slow corners.
Valencia, he explained, poses an interesting challenge because it is quicker and more open than the archetypal street circuit.
“Traction is important and the stop-start nature of some sectors can be tough on the brakes,” Brawn commented.
“The last race in Canada saw a positive weekend for the team, and whilst we still need to work on the ultimate pace of the car, it was encouraging and rewarding to be fighting for a podium finish again.”
Brawn confessed recently that his team still has much to do to challenge the elite teams in the sport.
He said that the Mercedes GP PETRONAS team currently lacks the ‘strength’ needed in order to compete nearer the front of the grid.
