Di Resta makes move into Formula One
January 27, 2011
Mercedes-Benz DTM driver Paul Di Resta has confirmed that he is leaving the sport to pursue a career in Formula One.
Di Resta, 24, will achieve his life-long ambition of racing in Formula One when he lines up at the Bahrain Grand Prix in March.
His promotion to the sport comes on the back of his success in the DTM championship, where he claimed the title on the final day of a dramatic season.
Di Resta revealed that he is proud to follow in the footsteps of the likes of Jackie Stewart and David Coulthard.
“David is a very close friend as I was team-mates with him last year in DTM and have known him since I was a young boy growing up,” he explained.
Di Resta added: “He’s helped me become the man I am and is there for advice.”
Despite the Di Resta’s departure, the Mercedes-Benz team will be confident of achieving great things during the 2011 DTM season, having dominated last year’s championship.
