DTM at Norisring: Race Review
July 4, 2012

Jamie Green (Mercedes AMG C-Coupé) won the fifth DTM race of the season in spectacular style this weekend – securing the tenth victory in a row for Mercedes AMG at Norisring.

Despite adverse weather conditions, Green maintained a fantastic pace throughout the race, overtaking front-runner Martin Tomczyk (BMW) on the last corner of the final lap, and nailing the victory by a margin of 0.687 seconds.

After the race he said: “My tyres were giving excellent grip on the last ten laps and my pace was very strong. My Mercedes AMG C-Coupé was running superbly, and I was grinning from ear to ear on those last few laps.”

This is Green’s fourth win at the Norisring and eighth victory in his DTM career to date. He has achieved 19 podium finishes in 79 DTM outings and currently ranks second on the drivers’ standings with 69 points.

Meanwhile, championship leader Gary Paffett (THOMAS SABO Mercedes AMG C-Coupé) came home in an impressive fourth place after a mass collision at the start of the race saw him fall back to the very rear of the field. Bearing testimony to his performance, Paffett remains at the top of the drivers’ standings with 95 points.

In total, five Mercedes AMG Coupés finished in the top ten: among them David Coulthard (DHL Paket Mercedes AMG C-Coupé), Christian Vietoris (Mercedes-Benz Bank AMG C-Coupé) and Robert Wickens (stern AMG Mercedes C-Coupé) securing P5, P8 and P9 respectively. In addition, Coulthard and Wickens achieved their best ever result so far in the DTM.

Mercedes-Benz has now won 168 DTM races since first fielding a works team in 1988, and tops the constructors’ standings on 211 points. Norbert Haug, Vice President Mercedes-Benz Motorsport, was thrilled with the weekend’s performance saying: “I would like to thank everyone in the crew; they have all worked really well and cut the mustard in fine style against strong opposition from BMW and Audi. We’ll be doing a little celebrating tonight. We all deserve it.”

Stay tuned for the next race of the season taking place at the Olympiastadion München on 15th July.
