Gary Paffett claims DTM victory at Brands Hatch
May 21, 2012

Celebrating his second victory in the DTM this season, Gary Paffett took a dominant victory for Mercedes-Benz at Brands Hatch on Sunday.

Starting from pole position, the 31-year old scored a lights-to-flag win in his home race, ahead of Bruno Spengler (BMW) in second place, and Mike Rockenfeller (Audi) in third.

After the race, Paffett exclaimed: “It’s a great feeling to win my home race. I’ve now finally secured my first DTM victory at this track. The team and my THOMAS SABO Mercedes AMG C-Coupé were simply terrific – it was a perfect race that we controlled from start to finish.” Achieving 19 DTM race wins to date, Paffett is currently leading the drivers’ standings with 68 points.

Norbert Haug, Vice President Mercedes-Benz Motorsport expressed his delight saying: “Gary’s pole and the way he achieved it were simply breathtaking and formed the springboard for this victory.”

Commenting on teammate Christian Vietoris who finished sixth, Norbert added: “After his poor start, Christian Vietoris has made up positions and finished sixth. That is something you first have to achieve at a track like this.”

This season sees eight Mercedes-Benz DTM drivers racing in the new DTM Mercedes AMG C-Coupé, among them Roberto Merhi, Robert Wickens and Christian Vietoris who make up the new Mercedes-Benz junior team in the DTM.

A total of 27,000 spectators flocked to Brands Hatch on Sunday for the third round of the 2012 DTM season. The next race takes place at the Red Bull Ring in Spielberg, Austria on 3rd June.
